Our National Food Drive & More

Lambda Chi Alpha's Food Drive is the largest single-day, international philanthropic effort by college students. On this date more than 8,000 members go out and collect donations of non perishable food items or monetary gifts and donate it to a local area food pantry. Internationally Lambda Chi Alpha supports Feeding America. Locally we support The Salvation Army Food Bank.

Lambda Chi's Food Drives have  provided more than 32.5 million pounds of food for needy families in local communities throughout the United States and Canada over the past 16 years. With the growing support of sponsors, local communities, and the outstanding efforts of more than 8,000 members, 2,966,779 pounds of food were donated last year.

  • 35.5 million people - including 12.6 million children - live in households that experience hunger or the risk of hunger. This represents more than one in ten households in the United States (10.9 percent)

  • 4.0 percent of US households experience hunger. Some people in these households frequently skip meals or eat too little, sometimes going without food for a whole day. 11.1 million people, including 430 thousand children, live in these homes.

  • Research shows that preschool and school-aged children who experience severe hunger have higher levels of chronic illness, anxiety and depression, and behavior problems than children with no hunger.

The success of Lambda Chi's Food Drive efforts is so impressive that Lambda Chi Alpha became the first fraternity to receive the Summit Award from the American Society of Association Executives in 1995. This award is presented annually to associations and companies nationwide as part of its Associations Advance America Awards Program.
Theta Alpha Zeta gives the food we raise through our food drive efforts to the Birmingham Salvation Army Food Bank, ensuring the donations remain in the Birmingham Metro Area.
